Tiny behaviour changes set you up for success

The best students know the key to unlocking your optimum study performance is to establish good habits at the outset. What you may not know is there’s a simple technique to turn a resolution to study effectively into an established habit. Start when your motivation to change is high. Match the size of the change with your level of motivation. Choose something that is easily within your ability to achieve. Acknowledge that motivation comes in waves and prepare for when your motivation drops or there are other things competing for your attention. Set a system in place for the times when motivation is low. Choose an established habit and link the performance of your resolution to the habit. Celebrate your success and build on it once you are convinced it has become an established habit. An example of how this might work is say you want to study regularly through the holidays using Khan academy. So, each time you check social media you might also watch a Khan academy video or work through a Khan academy exercise. An extension of this might be once you are regularly using Khan academy, keep going until you have mastered a technique. For help and ongoing support developing and establishing habits visit us at http://www.ontrackvce.com.au/ and follow the links to Find Your Path.
